Workforce Development

    Chair: Katie Givens

    Purpose

This committee attempts to enhance the greater Emporia area’s economic development by developing and supporting strategies to help employees and employers meet the needs of our communities, now and in the future.  They may work with organizations, government entities and educational institutions.  Activities could include helping to identify skills needed by area employers through surveys or participating with a group to assist in developing strategies on how to develop a skilled workforce.  Committee members may perform more hands on activities such as conducting mock interviews with job seekers or students, or making a presentation to business leaders on how to develop current employees or maximize workforce planning.  They help promote best practices as identified in successful workforce development programs (WDPs) and share their HR expertise in ways that are helpful.  If you have a heart for helping your community prosper, consider serving on this committee.  Time commitment:  2 hours a month.
