    Captain Lisa Hayes will be presenting on leadership and being a female in a leadership role. 

    Captain Lisa Hayes is the Commander of Emporia Police Department’s Investigations Division. Captain Hayes began her career with EPD as an Animal Control Officer in 1998 and became a Patrol Officer in 2000. In 2005, she was promoted to Detective and worked in the Investigations Division until she was promoted to the rank of Patrol Sergeant in 2012. She served as the department's Administrative Sergeant from 2014 to 2021. She is from Melvern, KS and holds a degree from Allen County Community College, with additional education from Emporia State University and the University of Virginia. She is currently finishing a Criminal Justice degree at Liberty University. Hayes has lived in the Emporia area for 28 years. She is married and has one daughter and two bonus sons. Hayes is passionate about family and serving the Emporia community. Captain Hayes recently graduated from the FBI National Academy (March 2025), session 293. The FBI National Academy, held in Quantico, Virginia, is a rigorous 10-week professional development program that provides advanced training in leadership, investigative techniques, and law enforcement best practices. Less than 1% of law enforcement officers worldwide are selected to attend.
