Kevin Shireman has been an Emporia native all of his life. He graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor Degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice in 1998.
Training:
- FBI Basic Negotiations
- Public Agency Training Council Basic Negotiations
- Advanced Negotiations Certifications Through Public Agency Training Council and has recertified.
- Negotiations Certification through Legal Liability and Risk Management Institute. Currently certified.
- Member of Kansas Association of Hostage Negotiators
- Attended joint trainings on Negotiations with K-State and Riley County.
Experience:
- Has Negotiated with multiple people in barricade situations and suicidal subjects for the last 10 years.
- Currently the only negotiator in the department.
- Has worked for the Emporia Police Department for over 20 years.
- 10 Years of Patrol
- Experience in Narcotics
- Investigations Division for over 10 years
- SWAT Special Response Team for Negotiators
